The Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information (CRC:SI) has announced prototype emergency response system, HazWatch, will be operationalised under a million dollar partnership signed between the CRC:SI, NGIS Australia and State Governments in WA and New South Wales.
Driving HazWatch is GeoSamba Universal, a powerful location and mapping engine that combines data from public and private sector sources, plus operational reports from the field, to build a detailed picture of an emergency as the crisis unfolds. This information is then available to emergency personnel via the Internet, hand-held devices and mobile phones.
GeoSamba provides HazWatch with its key strength: the ability to connect many types of
information, previously locked away in private and public databases, and to make it available in real-time to emergency response teams from many different agencies and jurisdictions in various locations.
Perth-based spatial technology consultancy, NGIS Australia, is very excited to be a member of the team responsible for developing a system that potentially will save lives by empowering emergency services with the means to enact a more effective and timely response.
